Texas Governor Greg Abbott granted a full pardon to Daniel Perry, citing the state's Stand Your Ground self-defence law.
Perry was found guilty of murdering Garrett Foster at a Black Lives Matter rally, claiming self-defense when Foster pointed an AK-47 at him.
The pardon came after the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole recommended it, following an investigation requested by the governor.
Abbott mentioned that the jury's verdict nullified the Stand Your Ground law, removing the duty to retreat before using deadly force.
