The City of Los Angeles has created new requirements for businesses that work with independent contractors.
The new ordinance aims to protect independent contractors against delayed, non- and underpayment.
The ordinance applies to entities doing business in Los Angeles that hire independent contractors exceeding $600 in services in a year.
Exceptions to the ordinance include app-based transportation and delivery drivers, workers with existing written agreements or already employed by the hiring entity, volunteers, and workers with employees other than themselves.
