Automatic emergency braking at speeds up to 90mph required under new rule
Briefly

The US Department of Transportation requires automatic emergency braking (AEB) in all light-duty vehicles by 2029 to prevent deaths and injuries.
AEB systems must detect pedestrians in daylight and darkness, stop vehicles up to 62mph from hitting the front vehicle, and apply brakes up to 90mph to prevent lead vehicle collisions.
Current AEB systems are less effective at higher speeds, leading to mandatory improvements. AAA testing highlights failures in preventing T-bone and left-turn collisions.
