Endemic obsolescence: the shortened lifespan of digital art

In the act of observing a work of art, the last thing that anyone mentions is the frame. There is always the canvas, the sculpture, the liquid-crystal display (LCD) screen, but rarely does anyone mention the means by which the art is accessed, or how it is contained.
If the 21st century is defined by the ever-strident march of technological progress, then the unspoken supplement to this development are the graveyards of now useless computer technology.
