Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes jumps forward in time by 'many generations' to approach the status quo of the original film, aiming to eventually close the series at the same place it began with a time loop concept.
Director Wes Ball highlights the transition in Kingdom from the end of one era to the beginning of another, with the previous three movies serving as background lore to the current storyline.
