Five surprisingly simple ways to optimise your diet - BBC Ideas
Briefly

Whenever you eat carbs, or sweet things, the level of glucose in your blood rises. If it rises very quickly, and sharply, it will be followed by a crash. But the order you eat your food matters too. If you're having something carb-heavy, eating fat, protein, or vegetables before flattens that glucose curve.
Calorie counting is hard and unreliable as most underestimate by 25%. Natural foods require more energy to digest (thermic effect of food), making not all calories the same inside your body.
