Killer detained indefinitely for stabbing pensioner on mobility scooter while in 'Hunger Games' delusion
Briefly

Lee Byer, 46, had been free from prison for just five days when he launched into a savage and unprovoked knife attack on 87-year-old Thomas O'Halloran, stabbing him twice through the heart.
Doctors reported that Byers, armed with a knife, believed he was due to meet a contestant in a Hunger Games scenario when he attacked Mr. O'Halloran, suffering from undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia.
Thomas O'Halloran, a popular figure in the Greenford area, was returning home in his mobility scooter, stabbed multiple times by Byer as captured on CCTV, and died at the scene on August 16, 2022.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC, the Recorder of London, imposed an indefinite hospital order on Byer after his admission of manslaughter by diminished responsibility, recognizing Mr. O'Halloran as a gentle and loving man.
