The acclaimed astrophysicist Jane Rigby, an out lesbian, received the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom for exemplary contributions to the field of astrophysics and LGBTQ+ visibility.
Rigby, a civil servant astrophysicist at NASA and a senior project scientist at the James Webb Space Telescope, has also been honored as the LGBTQ+ Scientist of the Year and has actively contributed to LGBTQ+ equality initiatives in astronomy.
