Iconic Yosemite trail closes indefinitely
Briefly

The John Muir Trail near the top of Nevada Fall, close to the Panorama Trail junction, is currently closed after hundreds of boulders fell on the trail. Nearly 1,000 feet of the trail is covered with debris, prompting closures to hikers.
The National Park Service plans significant repair on the John Muir Trail, which includes drilling and blasting the boulders. Previous closures due to rockfalls and ongoing assessments for further incidents are a concern for the trail's safety.
Rangers have closed the gate at Clark Point on the John Muir Trail to assess the slope for additional rockfalls. The trail, intertwined with the Pacific Crest Trail, provides an alternative to the Mist Trail's demanding switchbacks to access Nevada Fall.
